Youth tied to pole for damaging transformer

: In yet another case of mob justice, locals of Balijhara slum in Padaip town of Jagatsinghpur district tied a youth to a pole on the allegation of damaging an electric transformer on Thursday night.

Later, they handed over the youth to police and lodged an FIR against him.

It was alleged that the youth threw some metals at the transformer, due to which about 15, 000 people of Balijhara, Uday Vihar, Udayabata and Santoshipada slums suffered misery due to power outage.

Power is yet to be restored in the aforesaid areas till afternoon. So, there was no water supply on Friday. Small children and the elderly suffered the most in the torrid heat. Police should take stringent action against the youth as he is a notorious ant-social of the locality, alleged Manoj kumar Nayak, Pratap Das and other residents of Balijhara slum.

Power distribution company officials said the power cut is due to manmade reasons. A complaint would be lodged and power supply would be restored.

Police said investigation was on and appropriate action would be taken.
