Mammoet installed a prefabricated overpass in Ottawa

Dutch giant Mammoet assists the Kiewit-Dufferin Midtown Partnership with the replacement of a bridge in Ottawa, Canada.

The Highway 417 Booth Street overpass was replaced by 1,800MT pre-built overpass pieces, which were transported with the help of four Self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) and an MJS 800 mega-jacking system, a remotely and computer-controlled system.

The whole operation, which began on Friday, August 11th, was completed six hours ahead of schedule. As such, the major highway was reopened early enough to support the morning commute, only causing a slowdown in traffic over the weekend. This type of replacement construction, where a structure is torn down and replaced by a ready-made one, is gaining popularity, as it allows for the quicker completion of projects, and thus a reduced disturbance in traffic flows.
