Now that a massive electric transformer has been delivered, work continues to install the equipment at Evergy’s Morris County substation outside Council Grove.
Evergy spokesperson Kaley Bohlen tells KVOE News this was a needed project.
Bohlen says failure of the prior transformer would have led to outages nearby, including portions of Lyon, Chase and Morris counties, as well as additional strain on the area power grid.
The delivery took place Oct. 13, with the nearly 500,000-pound transformer fully blocking Kansas Highway 177 on its way from Strong City through Council Grove to the substation. The load actually originated from Wisconsin and was brought by rail to Chase County.
