As medical services continue to migrate to outpatient settings, the center allows White Plains Hospital to provide advanced, clinical care closer to patients’ homes. Elegantly blending into the hospital campus and complementing other new buildings, the center's design highlights the programs within and elevates the patient and clinical staff experience.

Within carefully composed facades of brick, metal and glass curtain wall that blend with buildings nearby, the nine-story facility's 24,000-sq-ft floorplates provide an expansive area for high-tech programs and support building systems in a layout that accommodates evolving medical technology. The building was designed to have robust IT infrastructure for future telemedicine. It also incorporates "smart" features such as automatic building management, energy efficiency and real-time data collection. Outside, two bridge connectors to existing structures were prefabricated off site and installed with minimal impact to operations.

COVID-19 required project team engineers to rely heavily on building information modeling and other technology to solve intricate problems in real time while working almost entirely off site. Nearly 500 trade personnel were provided weekend meals for the final 12-week push toward project completion. The commitment to communication by jobsite leadership contributed to an environment centered around mutual respect, says the team.

The $270-million project was completed at budget and on schedule in 27 months.
