Parkwind, 50Hertz install Arcadis Ost substation

2380t platform was installed by the Scaldis crane ship Gulliver on its monopile foundation in the Baltic Sea

Parkwind and 50Hertz have completed the installation of the offshore substation platform for the 257 Arcadis Ost offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea.

The 2380-tonne structure was installed by the Scaldis crane ship Gulliver on its monopile foundation at the site, around 19 km east of Rügen in Germany, just six days after the foundation was installed.

The transformer platform was realised jointly by Parkwind and 50Hertz.

It stands 30 metres tall and is located at the centre of the Arcadis Ost 1 wind farm.

The task of the platform is to bundle the incoming electricity from the 27 wind turbines and raise it to a voltage level of 220kV by means of a transformer.

The substation will provide the grid connection for both the Arcadis Ost 1 wind farm and the Baltic Eagle wind farm, which is still to be built.

In total, the offshore substation platform together with its foundation weighs over 5000 tonnes.

The transformer platform was designed, manufactured and installed by Bladt Industries in Denmark.

The substation was initially prefabricated in Poland.

Final assembly and equipment took place from mid-2021 at Bladt Industries in Aalborg, Denmark.

Semco Maritime took over the planning, installation and commissioning of the high-, medium- and low-voltage systems of the transformer platform.

Manfred Dittmer, Parkwind's country manager for Germany, said: "With the installation of the substation just a few days after the foundation was erected, we have reached another important milestone in our project.
