Mayor confirms replacement transformer will be delivered today

Aug 09, 2023

Following the series of protests around Vosman, KwaGuqa, Ezinambeni and surrounding areas due to continuous power outages, the municipality

has provided an update on the progress made to restore electricity.

The Executive Mayor, Clr Conny Nkalitshana confirmed that the replacement transformer will be delivered today (May 12). "The installation work is expected to commence on Saturday, May 13 and it will take a few days for the work to be completed including testing of the transformer."

The main transformer for the above-mentioned areas experienced internal damages and had to be removed from the site and transported to

the manufacturer for repairs given the fact that it is still under warranty; the contingency plans have been activated to source funds from the municipalities’ revenue.

The Mayor has once more refuted claims circulating on social media asserting that she was attacked for being disrespectful when she apparently said, "Why why do you need electricity because you don't even have refrigerators."

The Mayor categorically refutes these allegations, "I did not and will never utter such words to the community and to anyone for that matter."

In closing the Mayor assured eMalahleni residents that she is committed to providing regular updates and feedback on the progress made to the community and all stakeholders.
